The mediums in contemporary art are in crisis and have been for some time.
One possible solution is to redefine the medium, pulling it from crisis, venturing into the uncharted by expanding, like n+1. Asking what else the medium can do. Another possible way is to work through it; to look right at the rupture to see what the medium is already doing. Not expanding it but registering “the points at which new possibilities are opened up by this very crisis.”*
My 10th grade English teacher would answer a difficult question by saying CONSULT WEBSTER. This is not Webster. This is the chalk outline on the ground of the thing that was already there.
